The piece

Moss flows like gentle water currents in a serene drift.

Drift I captures the gentle movement of water through channels, crafted with sweeping strokes of Iceland moss. Each color, from deep fir-green to delicate grass-green hues, mirrors the tranquil passage of a slow-moving stream. This artwork encourages a pause, inviting you to trace the subtle paths the moss takes across its surface, finding serenity in its soft embrace. Its gentle lines and textures create a quiet focal point, bringing a calming presence to any room.

Movement without a destination.

One family. One shared world.

Long green currents slide past one another. Drift gives direction to the composition without fixing a centre; the eye can enter anywhere and follow the changing bands.

04 / Field notes

Where the compositions begin.

Every Waldart palette starts outdoors: which greens sit next to each other, where light catches, how much empty space a surface needs. The first two images are nature studies for this design family; the others are photographs from our walks. The panels themselves are made from preserved moss.

Long strands of dark-green water moss streaming in the current of a forest brook
01 / Current

Water moss grows from stones in a clear brook and streams out in long green bands. They lie side by side, all pointing downstream, none of them heading anywhere in particular. That is Drift.

Fallen leaves drifting on a forest pool with a pond skater on the water surface
02 / Surface

In a slow pool, leaves drift and a pond skater rests on the water film. Everything moves a little, nothing has a destination.

Close-up of moss on bark with bright green tips
03 / Light

Only the tips catch the light. That is why the brightest green appears sparingly, as an accent rather than a surface.

Moss spreading across grey limestone, a single leaf above
04 / Edges

Moss never stops in a straight line. Colour fields fray into each other, and we let them.

A woodland stream running between mossy stones and fallen leaves
05 / Intervals

Water makes the spaces between stones visible. Empty space is part of the composition, not what is left over.
